About Me
Writer. Professor. Human IMDb.
I’m Rachel Brethauer
Hello! I’m Rachel, a neurodiverse professor of screenwriting, TV history, and media studies, an award-winning copywriter, and a screenwriter. My scripts are about ambitious women, the sacrifices they’re forced to make, and the cost of their choices. I love finding the humor in dark or sad circumstances, and I’m all about my characters’ search for home.
In my screenwriting career, I’ve been a semi-finalist in the Sundance Episodic Lab, the Fox Writers’ Lab, NBC Writers on the Verge, and CineStory’s TV Fellowship.
An American Zealot, the feature I co-wrote as part of the Film Independent/LMU Incubator Lab is currently streaming on a service near you.
If you’d like to read one of my scripts, hire me to work for you, or anything else, drop me a line.

What i got
In my career as an award-winning copywriter, I spent years mastering (and helping to shape) the unique voices of many blue-chip brands. Coupled with running writers’ rooms in the college-level screenwriting classes I teach, I’m ready to hit the ground running on your show.
I’m ready to bring my knowledge and expertise to a writers’ room—whether that’s as a staff writer or via the development of my own series. Get a taste of my scripts and request any of them that pique your interest.
